Yeah, I know, the label takes up the middle part of the LP so the outer track needs to be longer in time (wider on the LP) than the second track to put the "equator" in the middle midway between the spindle ("hub", "north pole") and edge of the disk. If you're sailing west (nearly everyone seems to, probably because overall the winds are more favorable that way maybe due to the rotation of the Earth, but, whatever), on average, you're turning right all the time to stay on course (sort of the opposite of a NASCAR track). Sail along the equatorial band, zigzagging to avoid continents, make ports, and stuff. The The Equator is the narrow band between the inner and outer tracks. Think of the Earth as a vinyl LP album (anyone but me remember these?) with two equally long tracks on one side. I don't think for a moment that the Earth is flat, but someone who did could argue that, if the Earth were flat, it would be possible to sail "around" it.
